Canada’s Food Guide encourages all Canadian adults to consume 6 to 8 portions of cereal products daily.

The role of cereal products in nutrition

According to Canada’s Food Guide, cereal products, especially whole grains, are a good source of carbohydrates and fibres.

Besides providing the energy we need every day, carbohydrates are essential to the proper functioning of the brain and red blood cells. Foods rich in fibres can help people to feel full or satisfied. A diet rich in fibres can also contribute to reducing the risk of heart diseases.

A varied and balanced diet is a key to good health.
